At 97 Years Old, He Is the Last Blazing Saddles Cast Member Still Alive

“Blazing Saddles,” directed by Mel Brooks, is a comedic masterpiece that has delighted audiences since its 1974 release. Set in the fictional town of Rock Ridge, the film cleverly satirizes Western tropes while tackling serious issues like race and bigotry. With a stellar cast featuring Cleavon Little as the witty Sheriff Bart, Gene Wilder as the lovable Waco Kid, and memorable performances from Madeline Kahn and Harvey Korman, the film remains a classic.

Cleavon Little’s groundbreaking role as Bart earned him acclaim, but he faced significant challenges in Hollywood due to racial discrimination. He passed away in 1992 at 53. Gene Wilder, who brought humor to the Waco Kid, continued to shine in comedy until his death in 2016 at 83.

Other notable cast members include Slim Pickens as the bumbling Taggart, Madeline Kahn as the seductive Lili von Shtupp, and Harvey Korman as the villainous Hedley Lamarr. Each contributed to the film’s comedic chaos, leaving behind enduring legacies.

Today, the sole surviving main cast member is Mel Brooks himself, who continues to be celebrated for his comedic genius. What’s your favorite Mel Brooks movie? Let us know in the comments!
