Jane Leeves: Rare Photos & Untold Crazy Life Story

Kelsey Grammer initially opposed casting Jane Leeves as Daphne in “Frasier,” fearing her British accent would turn the show into a “Nanny and the Professor” situation. However, after a personal audition, he was convinced she was perfect for the role. Jane, born in Essex, England, initially dreamed of becoming a ballerina, but a severe ankle injury at 16 ended her dance aspirations, leading her to pursue acting instead.

She appeared in “The Benny Hill Show” and later moved to LA, where she joined an acting class with notable future stars like Ellen DeGeneres and Jim Carrey. After struggling initially, she landed roles in “Murphy Brown” and “Seinfeld,” eventually securing her breakout role in “Frasier.” Her character Daphne was inspired by co-creator David Lee’s personal experience with his father’s stroke.

Jane’s role in “Frasier” brought her significant fame, and she continued to succeed in her career, including starring in “Hot in Cleveland.” Despite her professional success, she faced personal tragedies, including the loss of close friends and co-stars in the 9/11 attacks and other heartbreaking events.
